About Us
Bringing the authentic flavours of Mexico to your kitchen - with ingredients you can find in Australia.
Our mission
Recetas Mexas was born from a passion for showing real Mexican cooking: not the tex-mex version that spread around the world, but the tradition recognised by UNESCO in 2010 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. We adapt every recipe so you can make it with ingredients you can find in Australia — the big supermarket chains (Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, IGA) or your local Latin grocer — flagging cultural substitutions whenever they are needed.
Our approach
- Authenticity first: every recipe starts from a documented traditional version of a Mexican region (Oaxaca, Yucatán, Puebla, CDMX, etc.).
- Local adaptation without losing the essence: the large Australian chains (Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, IGA) carry part of the Mexican range, and Latin grocers cover most of the rest. When something is genuinely hard to find here, we suggest a culturally close substitution and point you to the shops we have mapped ourselves.
- No magic shortcuts: we do not rely on “Mexican seasoning powder” or “ready-made sauce.” You will learn to make salsas, marinades and bases from scratch.
- Honest conversions: measurements in cups / tablespoons / grams / millilitres. One Australian quirk worth knowing: the standard Australian tablespoon is 20 ml (four teaspoons), while ours — like the rest of the world's — is 15 ml, so use three teaspoons where a recipe says one tablespoon. Prices in Australian dollars, updated periodically.

Edmond Bojalil
Founder · Mexican full-stack developer from Puebla
Originally from Puebla, Mexico. After years living in Europe, he discovered how hard it is to find authentic Mexican recipes with local ingredients — and that the “Mexican” version circulating online in other languages is often far from the real thing. Recetas Mexas is his personal project to fix that: it started in Spain, then the UK, and now reaches Australia.
