About Recetas Mexas

What is Recetas Mexas?+

An editorial platform dedicated to authentic Mexican cooking, with recipes adapted so you can make them in Australia with ingredients you can find here.

Is it free?+

Yes. All recipes, cultural guides and use of the platform are 100% free. Premium features only exist for business profiles (shops/restaurants) that want to be featured.

Who is behind it?+

Edmond Bojalil - Mexican (from Puebla). Learn more at /en-au/about.

Recipes

Are the recipes authentic or tex-mex?+

Authentic. Every recipe starts from a documented traditional version of a Mexican region (Oaxaca, Yucatán, Puebla, CDMX, etc.). When we include something tex-mex, we flag it explicitly.

What if I can't find an ingredient in Australia?+

Every ingredient comes with a note on culturally close substitutions — for dried chillies, coriander, capsicum or fresh cheeses there is almost always a local stand-in that keeps the dish honest. For the harder-to-find ones we keep a directory of Mexican and Latin shops across Australia: browse it at /en-au/stores or on the map at /en-au/map. Several also ship online.

Are the tablespoons Australian?+

No, and it matters here: the standard Australian tablespoon holds 20 ml (four teaspoons), while the rest of the world uses 15 ml. Our recipes use the 15 ml tablespoon, so with Australian measuring spoons use three level teaspoons wherever a recipe says one tablespoon. Cups, grams and millilitres are unaffected.

Can I print the recipes?+

Yes. Every recipe page has an optimised print button.

Where do I find Mexican ingredients in Australia?+

In Latin American grocers and in the international aisle of the large supermarket chains (Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, IGA). We list the shops we have mapped ourselves, city by city, at /en-au/stores and on the map at /en-au/map.

Do I need to create an account?+
