Mexican Restaurants in East and North London: Area Guide

East and north London hold the widest range of Mexican formats in the capital: pub residencies, brewery pop-ups, halal birria stalls in container markets, Dalston taco bars and sit-down restaurants around Camden and Shoreditch.

This article lists the Mexican restaurants, taquerias, market stalls and takeaway counters mapped in our UK directory east and north of the centre, grouped by the area each postcode places them in. It is a directory listing, not a ranking: we have not eaten at, tested or scored any of them.

Details come from each venue's directory entry: its format, its price band (budget, mid-range, upper mid-range or high end) and the dishes named there. Headings link to the venue page, with the address, website and hours we hold.

How to use this listing, and how to cook it at home

Our directory maps Mexican venues across the UK rather than judging them: no scores, no order of merit. East and north London carry a lot of residencies, pop-ups and market pitches, and those move or change days more often than restaurants, so check with the venue before you travel. If an address or opening pattern here is out of date, use the report link on the venue's page and we will amend the record.

Much of what turns up on these menus is straightforward to cook. Beef birria tacos with consommé cover the dish behind the Camden and Ilford stalls, Sonoran flour tortillas the northwestern style, and suadero tacos a taqueria staple. For the bar side there is a margarita recipe, and our British drinker’s guide to mezcal and tequila sets out what separates the two spirits.
