Where to Eat and Shop Mexican in Charlotte, NC: The South Boulevard Corridor

Sep 28, 20264 min read(Updated: Sep 29, 2026)

Nine Mexican restaurants and ten grocery stores in Charlotte, North Carolina, from our directory — real addresses, with South Boulevard as the city's densest single corridor.

Charlotte's Mexican food and grocery scene in our directory is smaller and more scattered than the corridors we've mapped in Chicago or Atlanta, but one street pulls ahead of the rest: South Boulevard, which runs southwest from Uptown Charlotte and carries four separate Mexican businesses in our data — one restaurant and three grocery stores.

South Boulevard: the closest thing Charlotte has to a corridor

5938 South BlvdLa Unica Super Center InternacionalStore — supermercado

These four sit across roughly four and a half miles of the same street, from La Capital MX near Uptown down to Supermercado El Rey closer to the South Carolina line. Tryon Street runs a close second: our directory lists Compare Foods and Super Mercado El Mariachi on North Tryon, and one of the two Don Pedro Mexican Restaurant locations on South Tryon — three listings on the same named street, split across its north and south segments.

Don Pedro Mexican Restaurant is the only restaurant brand in Charlotte's directory with two separate locations — one on Chancellor Park Drive, one on South Tryon Street. Of the nine restaurants total, only one — Three Amigos Mexican Restaurant and Cantina — carries a published Google rating (4.3 stars, though its review count shows as 0 in our data). The other eight show no rating on file at all.

East Independence Boulevard carries two of the ten stores, a smaller echo of the South Boulevard pattern. Two of the ten — Carniceria La Mexicana Warehouse and La Bonita Mexican Grocery Store — have no street address on file in our directory at all, only a city-level location; we're stating that plainly rather than guessing at a cross street.

Websites tell a different story than ratings do

Rating data may be thin in Charlotte, but website data isn't, at least on the restaurant side: 8 of the 9 restaurants — every one except Cabo's Mexican Cuisine and Cantina — have a working website link on file in our directory. That's a higher website-coverage rate than several larger cities in this series, including Brooklyn's restaurant set. Stores tell the opposite story: only 3 of Charlotte's 10 grocery listings (Compare Foods, Supermercado El Rey and Super G Mart) have a website, and all three are the larger supermercado-format operations rather than the smaller carnicerías and tiendas. That pattern — chains and larger stores online, small independents not — shows up consistently across this series, from Tucson's Food City locations to Hialeah's Presidente Supermarket chain.

A city with thin rating data

Across all 19 Charlotte listings — 9 restaurants and 10 stores — only one carries a published Google rating. That's a real feature of this dataset worth calling out rather than papering over: it means Charlotte's Mexican food scene, at least the slice captured in Google Places data as of our last pull, hasn't accumulated the review volume that Laredo, Chicago or Atlanta's corridors show. That's not a statement about the food — it's a statement about how thin the review data is for this specific city in this specific data source, which changes over time as more people rate these places on Google. By type, restaurants split 7 mexicano to 2 fusion (Cabo Fish Taco and La Capital MX), and stores split 5 supermercado, 2 tienda_mexicana and 3 mercado.
