Mexican Restaurants in Manchester: Area by Area Guide

Manchester's Mexican places are scattered rather than clustered. A few sit inside the Arndale and the Northern Quarter's food halls, a few more line the western side of the city center around Deansgate and Peter Street, and the rest are spread along Oxford Street, into Rusholme and across Greater Manchester in Stockport, Altrincham and Bolton.

The Arndale and the Northern Quarter

The densest concentration of Mexican food in central Manchester is in and around the Arndale and the streets just north of it, where several entries are counters and market stalls rather than full restaurants.

Barburrito Manchester

Listed at Unit 6, Halle Place, Arndale Center, Manchester M4 3AQ, this is a branch of a Mexican street food chain inside the shopping center. Our listing describes fresh burritos, tacos, nachos and quesadillas made to order, with a choice of fillings and salsas, and places it in the budget band. Recorded hours run 11:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and 11:00 to 19:00 on Sunday.

Pancho's Burritos

A stall at Unit FC1 Arndale Market, 49 High Street, Manchester M4 3AH. According to our entry it has been run by Mexico City native Enrique Martinez since 2009, serving generous burritos at affordable prices inside the market, and it sits in the budget band. Opening is daytime only in the hours we hold — roughly 09:00 to 18:15 on weekdays, 11:30 to 17:00 on Sunday — so it is a lunch stop rather than a dinner plan.

Pico's Tacos

Based at Mackie Mayor, 1 Eagle St, Manchester M4 5BU, in the Northern Quarter. The listing mentions homemade tortillas and colourful nachos, along with pickled cabbage and salsa verde, and puts the stall in the budget band. It is a food-hall counter with shared seating rather than a restaurant with its own dining room. Our hours show it closed on Monday, open until 21:30 later in the week and closing at 17:30 on Sunday.

Luck, Lust, Liquor & Burn

At 100-102 High Street, Manchester M4 1HP, a short walk from the market. Our directory records it as a Cal-Mex restaurant in the Northern Quarter combining Mexican dishes with generous American portions, with loaded nachos and creative burritos named in the description. Mid-range band, and the sit-down option in this cluster.

Deansgate, Peter Street and St Ann's

West of the Arndale, the entries are larger rooms and bars rather than counters, and the price bands climb.

Las Iguanas Manchester

Found at 84 Deansgate, Manchester M3 2ER. A Latin American chain restaurant, so the menu is broader than Mexican alone: our listing mentions flame-grilled dishes, sharing plates and bottomless brunch, with decor inspired by the southern hemisphere. Mid-range band, open from midday and running to 23:00 on Friday, 22:00 midweek and 20:00 on Sunday.

Peter Street Kitchen

Inside the Free Trade Hall, Peter Street, Manchester M2 5GP. Our entry describes Japanese-Mexican fusion with creative cocktails, notes that it has won multiple American Restaurant Awards, and places it in the high-end band — the only venue in this guide to sit there. It is an evening proposition: our hours have it closed on Monday and Sunday, opening at 17:00 on Tuesday and from 16:00 on Friday and Saturday.

Sandinista

At 2 Old Bank Street, Manchester M2 7PF, off St Ann's Square. Established in 2002, it is recorded in our directory as an intimate Latin bar with a large selection of cocktails and tequilas alongside Mexican-inspired tapas, and is described as a Manchester institution. Mid-range band, and a drinks-led room rather than a taqueria.

At 50 Oxford Street, Manchester M1 5EJ, in the city center. Our listing describes California-style burritos and tacos from what it records as the US's largest fast-casual Mexican chain, in the budget band.

Madre Manchester

At 47 Chorlton St, Manchester M1 3FY, at Kampus. The entry describes a Mexico City-inspired restaurant serving tacos, wood-grilled seafood, ceviche and steaks, with a street food atmosphere, and notes it is the sister venue to the Liverpool original. Upper mid-range band.

Rusholme and the Curry Mile

Don Tacos

At 61-63 Wilmslow Road, Rusholme, Manchester M14 5TB. The venue describes itself as the home of The US's first birria tacos on Manchester's Curry Mile, and our entry also mentions habanero lamb chops, tinga de res and generous portions of Mexican street food. Mid-range band, with hours running 12:00 to 23:00 across the week.

Greater Manchester: Stockport, Altrincham and Bolton

Three entries sit outside the city itself but within reach on the tram or train network.

La Capilla at Blackshaws

At 28-29 Market Place, Stockport SK1 1ES. Our listing describes a taqueria on Stockport's Market Place, the town-center sister site of the Heaton Chapel original, serving small plates, tacos, burritos, weekend brunch, frozen margaritas and Mexican-inspired cocktails. Pico's Tacos Altrincham

Inside Altrincham Market, Greenwood Street, Altrincham WA14 1SA. Our entry describes a Mexican street-food stall in the Market House making tacos from scratch, with carne asada, al pastor and vegetarian options on a regularly changing menu. It is recorded in the mid-range band and, like the Manchester stall, is closed on Monday, opening from 09:30 on the other days.

Don Tacos Bolton

At 119 Deansgate, Bolton BL1 1HA — Bolton's Deansgate, not Manchester's. According to our directory this independent taqueria was founded in 2016 and is the original Don Tacos, predating the Manchester site, serving tacos, burritos and quesadillas in a relaxed casual setting. Mid-range band.

Casa Mexica Manchester

Our directory records the address only as Manchester (burrito kitchen + new grocery launch), so check the shop's own channels before travelling. The entry describes a Manchester-based Mexican burrito kitchen newly expanded into Latin American and Mexican groceries and prepared foods: tortillas, salsas, chiles, beans, tequila and Mexican beer.

Mercado Deli Market

At 192A Burton Road, West Didsbury, M20 1LH. This is an independent cafe, bar and deli specialising in Latin American and Mediterranean products, and the description names Venezuelan arepas, champurrado, Argentinian empanadas and imported Latin American speciality products. Recorded hours are 08:00 to 16:30 on most weekdays, 09:00 to 16:30 on Sunday and much later on Friday.
