Mexican Food in Reno: The South Virginia Street Corridor
Seven Mexican restaurants and four grocery stores in Reno, Nevada, with four restaurants strung along South Virginia Street — real addresses and ratings from our directory.
Reno sits nearly 450 miles from Las Vegas, in the northern part of the state, and its Mexican food geography in our directory has nothing to do with the Strip corridors we've mapped further south. What it does have is a single long street — South Virginia Street, Reno's main north-south commercial spine — carrying four of the city's seven restaurants.
South Virginia Street: four stops, twelve miles
| Address | Name | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| 1415 S Virginia St | Miguel's Mexican Food | 4.3 (659 reviews) |
| 2740 S Virginia St | Nevada Taco Grill | No rating on file |
| 4950 S Virginia St | La Michoacana | 4.2 (255 reviews) |
| 13901 S Virginia St | Miguel's Mexican Food - Summit | 4.3 (411 reviews) |
Miguel's Mexican Food operates two locations on this same street, roughly twelve miles apart — one near downtown, one further south near the Summit Sierra area. Between them, Nevada Taco Grill and La Michoacana fill in the middle stretch. Nevada Taco Grill is the only one of the four without a Google rating on file.
The other three restaurants
| Address | Name | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| 336 Mill St | Bertha Miranda's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina | 4.4 (796 reviews) |
| 25 Foothill Rd | Los Compadres | 4.3 (449 reviews) |
| 5100 Mae Anne Ave | Tacos El Rey | 4.1 (286 reviews) |
Bertha Miranda's, on Mill Street near downtown, carries both the highest rating (4.4) and the highest review count (796) of any restaurant in Reno's directory listing. Tacos El Rey, out on Mae Anne Avenue on the city's west side, has the lowest of the seven at 4.1.
The numbers
Six of Reno's seven restaurants carry a Google rating; the average across those six is 4.27. Review counts, where present, range from 255 (La Michoacana) to 796 (Bertha Miranda's) — a much tighter spread than we've found in larger cities like Chicago or Los Angeles, consistent with Reno being a smaller market overall. By type, mexicano-style sit-down restaurants outnumber taquerías 4 to 3.
The four grocery stores
| Address | Name | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 1500 S Wells Ave | Marketon | Supermercado |
| 1901 Silverada Blvd | El Super | Supermercado |
| 2145 Sutro St Ste 5 | Carniceria Tres Amigos | Mercado |
| 4385 Neil Rd Ste 102 | Carniceria La Chiquita Meat Market & Deli | Mercado |
None of Reno's four grocery stores carries a Google rating in our data, and none shares a street with another — each sits in a different part of the city, with no corridor pattern the way South Virginia Street shows on the restaurant side. Two are classified supermercado-scale (Marketon, El Super) and two as smaller mercado-format meat markets and delis (Carniceria Tres Amigos, Carniceria La Chiquita).
Reno versus the Las Vegas metro
A separate guide in this series covers Henderson and North Las Vegas, the two suburbs ringing Las Vegas proper, and the contrast with Reno is worth spelling out since both are Nevada cities in our directory. Henderson and North Las Vegas combined show 12 restaurants with an average rating of 4.53 across the 10 that carry one; Reno's 7 restaurants average 4.27 across the 6 that carry one — a quarter-star lower, though on a sample small enough (6 versus 10 rated listings) that we wouldn't call the gap definitive. Review volume tells a clearer story: the highest single review count in Reno's data is Bertha Miranda's 796, while Henderson's Juan's Flaming Fajitas & Cantina alone carries 5,312 — more than six times as many. Metro Las Vegas is a substantially larger market than Reno, which is one plausible reason for the gap in review volume, though our directory data alone can't isolate market size from other factors like how long a listing has been active on Google.
Planning a visit
South Virginia Street runs the length of the city and is served by RTC Ride's Route 3, which stops within a few blocks of all four restaurants on the corridor. Because the two Miguel's Mexican Food locations sit twelve miles apart, treating this as a single walking route doesn't work the way the Chicago or Atlanta corridors in this series do — a car or rideshare between stops is the realistic way to cover South Virginia Street end to end. None of the eleven businesses in this guide has a live hours feed in our data, so confirming hours directly with each location before visiting, especially outside standard lunch and dinner windows, is worth the extra step. All seven Reno restaurants do have a website on file in our directory — including Nevada Taco Grill, the one listing with no Google rating — which means the fastest way to check current hours for any of them is the link in our own listing rather than a search from scratch. Three of the four grocery stores — Marketon, El Super and Carniceria Tres Amigos — have a website on file; only Carniceria La Chiquita Meat Market & Deli does not, which is typical for a smaller independent operation that relies on foot traffic and word of mouth rather than an online storefront.
