South of Miami: Mexican Food in Homestead, Hialeah, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale

Sep 28, 20264 min read(Updated: Sep 29, 2026)

Twenty-five real Mexican restaurants and grocery stores across four South Florida cities, including a Miami Beach spot rated 4.9 and a four-location supermarket chain in Hialeah.

Miami and Orlando each have their own guide in our directory. This one covers four cities around them that don't — Fort Lauderdale to the north, Miami Beach on the barrier island, Hialeah just northwest of the city, and Homestead at the southern edge of Miami-Dade County near the Everglades. Together our data shows 25 listings across these four: 14 restaurants and 11 stores.

Miami Beach: the highest rating in this entire batch of guides

AddressNameRating
1361 Washington AveEsquina Mexicana4.9 (11,034 reviews)
1884 Bay RdTequiztlán Mexican Restaurant and Tequila Bar4.6 (1,037 reviews)
1111 Collins AveNaked TacoNo rating on file
1220 16th StBodega Taqueria y Tequila South BeachNo rating on file
7450 Ocean TerraceTaquizaNo rating on file

Esquina Mexicana's 4.9-star rating across 11,034 reviews is the single highest score we've recorded across every city guide in this current batch — Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and the rest included. Only 2 of Miami Beach's 5 restaurants carry a rating in our data; the other three show no score on file.

Fort Lauderdale: four restaurants, none rated

AddressNameType
1313 E Las Olas BlvdRocco's Tacos & Tequila BarCantina
401 N Fort Lauderdale Beach BlvdEl VezMexicano
4354 N Federal HwyQuvo Tacos & Craft BeerTaquería
6206 N Federal HwyEpazoteMexicano

Two of the four — Quvo Tacos & Craft Beer and Epazote — sit on North Federal Highway, a mile and a half apart. None of Fort Lauderdale's four restaurants carries a Google rating in our current pull, and our directory has no Mexican grocery stores on file for the city at all.

Hialeah: one chain, four locations

Hialeah is where the chain-density story in this piece really shows up. Of the city's five grocery listings, four are the same banner:

AddressName
495 W 29th StPresidente Supermarket #27
1060 W 29th StPresidente Supermarket #14
1550 W 84th StPresidente Supermarket #2
3750 W 18th AvePresidente Supermarket #61

That's 80% of Hialeah's grocery listings under one name, including two locations on West 29th Street alone. The fifth store, La Barata Supermarket on West 16th Avenue, carries the highest rating in Hialeah at 4.8 stars, though with no review count on file. Hialeah's two restaurants, Taqueria Herencia Mexicana (4.2 stars, 540 reviews) and Taco Shop Hialeah (4.3 stars, 1,149 reviews), are both classified as taquerías — notably, Taqueria Herencia Mexicana shares its exact street address, 1550 W 84th St, with Presidente Supermarket #2, suggesting they sit in the same retail plaza.

Homestead: North Krome Avenue and South Dixie Highway

North Krome Avenue, Homestead's main commercial street, carries two of the three restaurants. All three Homestead restaurants carry ratings — 4.3, 4.3 and 4.5 — with La Quebradita Mexican Grill's 2,633 reviews the highest volume of the three.

The numbers across all four cities

Of the 14 restaurants across Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach, Hialeah and Homestead, only 7 carry a Google rating — exactly half. Among those 7, the average is 4.44, pulled up by Esquina Mexicana's outlier 4.9. Fort Lauderdale is the weak point in the data: zero of its four restaurants, and none of its (nonexistent, in our directory) grocery stores, carry a rating.

Fort Lauderdale: no ratings, but a full set of websites

Fort Lauderdale is a useful reminder that a missing rating doesn't mean a missing business: all four of its restaurants — Rocco's Tacos & Tequila Bar, El Vez, Quvo Tacos & Craft Beer and Epazote — have a website on file, despite none of the four carrying a Google rating. The same split shows up in Hialeah's grocery stores, where all four Presidente Supermarket locations share the chain's website while the independent La Barata Supermarket has none, and in Homestead, where 3 of 6 stores (Redland Market Village, La Ranchera Meat Market #4, Mexico Market) have a site and the other 3 don't.
